Apple Maps – Check Traffic & Travel Times for Future Dates

Your iPhone has a hidden option to forecast traffic

How to check traffic forecast on your iPhone

You’re probably familiar with the way your iPhone shows traffic and estimated travel times whenever you look up directions using Apple Maps. A lot of our daily lives depend on this feature especially if you happen to live in an area with a lot of traffic like we here in Southern California. But what if you’re planning to travel on a specific date and time?

Estimating travel times for future trips

A lot of people are using third-party apps to plan their trips and forecast traffic conditions for future dates and times. For a long time that was the only way to do it, you’d open up an app like Waze and put in a specific time and date to get estimated travel times for that particular time. But the native Maps app in iOS has the same functionality built-in and it’s super easy to use. This feature can be a little hidden unless you know it’s there, you put in the directions like you’d always do but once Apple Maps gives you the route, you’ll simply tap the button that says “now” and a date & time menu opens up. Here you can choose your date and time either based on what time you’re planning to leave or based on what time you’ll want to arrive at your destination.
